The ACC isn't the second toughest conference this year. It sucks.

    1. UMiami would throw tons of cash for him to jump ship, if he even could. Don't know his contract status.

    2. Southern Cal wasn't exactly a power under Hackett -- and it can be argued the Pac-10 was the weakest of the BCS conferences when Carroll got there.

    3. In Miami, he'd be king. Some guy named Riley wouldn't touch him. They'd give him the keys to the candy store and say, "Hear no evil, see no evil."

    4. Miami, L.A. have some similarities -- fair-weather fans being foremost.

I asked a hypothetical. I don't think Carroll's leaving, either, but it's not outside the realm of reason, especially if the NCAA starts checking under every pillow regarding Bush.

Here's a Hail Mary idea for the next Miami coach: Barry Alvarez.

He has a history with Shalala and is experiencing life from the luxury suite on Saturdays -- while probably missing being on the field. The only blemish missing from his head coaching career is winning a national title and he could win one there if he stayed 5 years. And one of his best friends in the coaching biz, John Palermo, is on the Miami staff.

Pope, it ain't that much of a Hail Mary. If dude could recruit people to Madison, imagine what he could do in Coral Gables.

Will kids from Miami want to play the smash mouth style that Alvarez played at Wisconsin?

As for UM spending a ton of money to lure Pete Carroll? UM doesn't have tons of money to pay off Coker and bring in a $3-5 million a year coach.

If Carroll leaves USC, it will be for the NFL.

Uh, that didn't work out well the first time. Moddy has a better chance of coaching in the NFL.

Naw, I'm more suited for the college game anyway.
    But thanks.
