Asked to comment, former Wisconsin governor Tommy Thompson cited a dead hearing aid and an urgent need to use the bathroom.

"I didn't hear the question. All I was thinking about was getting off the stage. I've been very sick...I had all of the problems with the flu and bronchitis that you have, including running to the bathroom. I was just hanging on. I could not wait until the debate got off so I could go to the bathroom. There's nothing discriminatory about me at all.

"Earning money," he added, "is part of the Jewish tradition."

How 'bout Sen. Ted Kennedy praising "Mike McGwire" and "Sammy Souser" during the '98 Home Run Race/JuiceFest?

    Talk about a politician...

Realizing what he had said, the Kansas Republican slumped at the podium and put his head in his hands.

"That's really bad," he said. "That will go down in history. I apologize"

I meant to say Lynn Dickey...

If it's true that Favre's agent is seeking a trade outta Green Bay -- see Favre demands trade thread -- maybe Brownback isn't so off base on certain things. Maybe he can predict the future ... such as he won't be the President of the United States in 2008.

  10. I agree with Claws.
Brownback way ahead of the curve on QB's.
    Mired in 1641 Catholicism, however.
