Too bad they'll be college juniors by the time a judgment is rendered, making the case moot.

Legally, the coach may win. He may be within his legal rights.
Politically, it's stupid. But then again, nothing in the Constitution prohibits an American from choosing to be an asshole.

My high school baseball coach at our first team meeting told us, "I only have two rules: No. 1, the coach is always right. No. 2, if you have any questions, refer to rule No. 1." It became a term of endearment for us, but then, he wasn't caught up in stupid shit like t-shirt messages. Since then, authority has been abused, as in this case, and coaches simply can't take this kind of mentality.

If the coach was smart, and these kids openly defied him, just bench them ... permanently. Problem solved.

How do you bench a runner?

Do you deal with a lot of unintelligent high school coaches?

Is it too much to ask for the coach to explain why he took offense to the shirts?

You should edit out redundancies in your copy.

If the coach tells a kid to run 15 miles in 98 degree weather or get cut, must the kid do it?

It's the whole "common sense" thing. It's a T-shirt. This is high school sports, not life and death. The shirts weren't offensive to anyone other than the coach. Let it go.

    I'm betting it's a school loyalty thing.
