They have a lot of good brands though.

This is not to talk anyone out of a Keurig. They're great for what they are.

For you fans of french presses -- which make very good coffee -- there are a couple of other methods that are very popular in top coffee shpos now.

    Here's some alternatives: http://www.intelligentsiacoffee.com/products/merch#pourover-brewers

    The Chemex: http://www.intelligentsiacoffee.com/product/merchandise/chemex-brewer

    and the Solo: http://www.intelligentsiacoffee.com/product/merchandise/eva-cafe-solo-brewer

Are both great methods. Would make a nice gift for the coffee lover in your life who already has/likes a french press.

I've had the same Cuisinart Grind and Brew for 7 years and it still works fine. There's lots of HIGHS by me, they just built a real nice one across the street from a Royal Farms (best chicken.ever).

Try Folgers K-Cup, the dark one. It's great. Seriously, it would seem like the last one to be good but it actually is very good.
Tully's French and Italian Roasts are two of my favorites.

The Tully's French Roast is about the best I've had from the Keurig.

If I wasn't such a fan of loose teas - there's a coffee shop near me that has almost 50 varieties and is WAY out there in their varieties - I'd go with a Keurig for the tea. Good, quick, hot.

Although, as previously stated, the buy-in is quite high.

I use our Keurig at work for tea. I've never liked coffee.
It's quick and convenient, and there are lots of varieties.

A local coffee roaster posted this on twitter the other day:

Does the tea taste coffee-ish since the machine is also used for coffee?

I've had tea out of the Keurig, and don't notice a coffee taste to it.

Since the coffee (or tea) stays in the k-cup while brewing, the only thing the coffee touches is the spout.

It's worth mentioning again that the individual k-cup is an environmental headache. Very hard to dismantle and recycle. So that plastic mostly finds its way into landfills.

This is true. It's also ironic, since Keurig is owned by Green Mountain Coffee, which tries to brand itself as a very "green" company and as a good "corporate citizen".

Even the fact that Starbucks is now selling k-cups is interesting, since it also like to be seen as "environmental".

The filter insert is the best way around this, of course. And you then get a much wider choice of coffees and grinds. Frankly, if a really strong, deeply flavorful cup of coffee is what you're after, no pre-pack k-cup is likely to satisfy.

At which point you're better off looking at a Chemex or French press and an espresso set-up of some kind.
