Derby week is here. I'm looking for tips and picks* for both the Derby and Oaks.

    * - Any profits made via SJ picks will be used to buy drinks at the Dallas outing.

Man, I haven't followed the ponies as much this year as in the past. I may go out and throw some down though if I can get anything good out of Wednesday's post selection show.

I thought the Kentucky Derby was already handicapped.

I don't think a handicapped horse will win, but a deaf horse would have the best shot.

Once the wisecracks are done, I'd love to pick up a tip or two...any regular horse writers out there?

I'm thinking of picking two midrange-odds horses and playing them in dollar exacta boxes with everyone else in the field. That would be two tickets, probably $30-40 each (not sure how big the field is). There have been some wild payouts in recent years and it would not be a stretch to get several hundred or $1,000 on an exacta if anything but the top two faves come in 1-2.
