John Hadl? The only man who loved him more than the columnist was Dan Devine, much to the detriment of the Green Bay Packers.

Wait a minute, aren't you the one that started the "go back in time and play what if" game here? But now you're chastising JC for merely responding by the same means?

Favre ended his career with a positive TD to interception ratio, Stabler didn't.

Here's the subtle allegation leveled by Dr. Z.

Not sure I'd call that terribly subtle. And the second anecdote is just bizarre. So he's suggesting Stabler invited Padecky down to Bama just to frame him? Why?

Thank you for posting this. I clicked on the link and spent an hour reading old Dr. Z columns in the archive. I love his announcers column. Great stuff.

    No problem.

Stoney, probably to get back at the writer for some perceived slight.

Stabler had a strange 1980 season. He was second in completion percentage and interceptions.

Wow, interesting stuff. Surprised I'd not heard that story before. Obviously it's well known that the Snake was no saint, but jeez....

  10. So what ever became of Bob Padecky?

Many years later, after Barret Robbins went AWOL from the Super Bowl, Padecky wrote about an encounter with Robbins in a hotel before a game, where Robbins was completely out of it and followed Padecky to his hotel room like a lost puppy.

The Stabler encounter couldn't have been fun, but those are two damn interesting stories for a retirement party.
