I like everything on CU's CD, which is amazing considering they spent less than half time time to put it together than most albums take. Mrs. Novelist will vouch for the fact that I picked her to win AI after the first audition. It'll be interesting to see how well she does when she's picking her own songs after her AI commitment expires. She's making the franchise a lot of money right now.

She looks like she has lost some weight though.

I mentioned LeAnn because she felt the need to open her yap in defence of Faith's meltdown at the CMA Awards. Faith was pissed that Carrie won top female vocalist of the year and LeAnn added that Carrie hadn't "paid her dues."

The anger is ironic considering Nashville pretty much invented the style-over-substance mentality that permeates popular music today and which cleared the path for Faith and LeAnn to have careers in the first place.

Paid her dues? Rimes is the last person to be talking about paying dues. Didn't she cut her first album at 14?

Rimes was 14 when her first album came out. After 10 years or so, I guess you could say she "paid her dues." Also, she has had an album out this past year. I can't recall the name of it, but she's had a couple of decent cuts off it.

Not getting in the "paid her dues" argument, however. It's like an MVP award. Nobody else had three hit songs in a row like Underwood. And Double J, it may be a different countdown, but I'm pretty sure that Ms. Underwood had three consecutive No. 1's. I love me some Faith Hill, but I only liked about one song she's put out in the last five years. I do, btw, like the stuff LeAnn Rimes is putting out right now as well.

IJAG: I was OK with "Jesus take the Wheel." I can totally understand that sentiment. I got tired of the "Don't forget to remember me" song. I love "Before he cheats." It's a total change for her. For a while, I thought she put out a gospel CD (not that there's anything wrong with that!)

And I love some Kelly Clarkson too. She's just got an attitude. Gotta love women with attitudes!

LeAnn's first album on a major label came out when she was 13. When it hit, it was quickly followed into the marketplace by another disc she had recorded a year or two prior. In a move bordering on the ludicrous, it was called "The Early Years."

She also won a Grammy at age 14. Wonder if she had paid her dues by then?

"Since U Been Gone" is quite possibly the catchiest pop song of the last 10 years.

    "Breakaway" was excellent too.

Never in a million years would have pegged the mousy-looking Clarkson as a breakout superstar who sends kittens scurrying for cover.

LeAnn has had a rough few years. IIRC, she had throat surgery. I also really liked the work she did when she went semi-pop. Some of it was nice. And yeah, I think she's paid her dues. She seems to have settled into herself now. <shrug>

The LeAnn Rimes songs from Coyote Ugly were great. I typically can't stand country, but I kept saying to my wife "Damn these songs are good, who is this?" and she'd just laugh. Then at the end Rimes shows up and I'm like fuck, I can't believe I like a bunch of LeAnn Rimes songs.

And just because: Coyote Ugly rawks. PG-13 porn with Piper Perabo and Maria Bello trying to bad act each other into submission!

Did you guys enjoy the 60" story Karen Guregian did on Ayla last week in the Herald? Her every movement is tracked in the Attleboro paper.
