I've always thought Vahe is one of the best writers in the country, and one of the nicest people to work with, too. So it's a big loss for St. Louis and a great addition for Kansas City.

I wonder if he left the P-D because the Star might offer more stability.

    Agree 100%.
  4. Tremendous hire. Great writer, better person. I'm sure Vahe is excited to get back to writing on more than just Mizzou. I have to think the opportunity to do that was too much to pass up after essentially going back to the Mizzou beat after being a national features guy for so long.

Exciting to see a transaction that has a newspaper hiring a writer from another newspaper.

At least the Missouri Tigers beat has minimal extra days. Early bowl games, early losses in the NCAA Tournament. Nice and easy.

Yeah. Wondering why he didn't go to Indiana. No bowl games to worry about. :)
  8. That doesn't account for the extra days spent chasing down players in court (or ones getting into ATV wrecks at the home of the school president) or uncovering the dirt that comes with seemingly every basketball coach they've hired since Stewart.

Great move for Kansas City and a big loss for one of my favorite papers. I will look forward to reading Vahe in the Star...

In all seriousness, it's probably a no brainer to take a columnist job, especially if they also have a job for your wife, but the travel for the Mizzou beat got a lot worse with the move to the SEC. I'd guess that would make a lot of people more eager to do something else.

Yeah, as opposed to, websites hiring away from newspapers and then the papers replacing that person with no one.

Vahe is a great writer and an even better person. That's terrific for both he and the paper.
