Katie Couric leaves CBS Evening News

    In my opinion, as an only occasional viewer of television news, I thought Couric did a excellent job despite some criticism.

    The critics seemed largely to be focused on her salary (which was absolutely ungodly) and the ratings (which couldn't be blamed solely on Couric) than on the quality of work. Her interviews with Sarah Palin and Valerie Plame were brilliant, and she did a lot of legitimate reporting, too.

    There was a time when a new CBS Evening News anchor would have been a huge, huge deal. Now, I'm not sure. But I'm not blaming Katie Couric.

    I think evening news has devolved to the point that a "name" doesn't really move the needle any more. You just need someone pleasant and semi-credible to pilot the ship between old people drug commercials.
