In my opinion, as an only occasional viewer of television news, I thought Couric did a excellent job despite some criticism.
The critics seemed largely to be focused on her salary (which was absolutely ungodly) and the ratings (which couldn't be blamed solely on Couric) than on the quality of work. Her interviews with Sarah Palin and Valerie Plame were brilliant, and she did a lot of legitimate reporting, too.
There was a time when a new CBS Evening News anchor would have been a huge, huge deal. Now, I'm not sure. But I'm not blaming Katie Couric.
