There are two main types of septic tanks.

One has a leach field of perforated pipes through which the stuff flows after it leaves the septic tank. That type doesn't need any power to operate.

But, if the soil has too much clay or other structure that doesn't allow water to soak in quickly enough, an aerobic system has to be installed. It has air and water pumps that require power.

Yes, I know too much about septic systems.

Of course, if power is out, chances are that anyone who relies on a septic system also relies on their own well and it won't pump without power. So, there would be nothing flowing into the septic system, anyway.

Too bad the heart of the storm missed Bristol.

I hear that the cafeteria and the showers at ESPN have been opened to the public, who are without power.

Sean Salisbury was first in line to hit the showers.

Nothing really starts at Mario's until around 6:30 pm when folks start to empty off the 5:26p from Grand Central.

Used to live in a very pretty rural area and had a nice 3-bathroom house ... and a well. After our first extended power outage, we didn't recycle milk jugs for two months. We kept a whole two shelves full of gallons of water just for such circumstances.

Just wait until the refugees start pouring out of New Canaan into Bedford and Pound Ridge. They'll need the UN to sort it out.
