The senate at my school was an absolute joke.

What does a student senate do, except give those who are in it a reason to list something they think is significant that rest of the world couldn't give less of a shit about?

I know at my school, about 75 percent of the student body read the paper every day. About 10 percent voted in student senate elections.

This guy is trying to make a bold political move, but once again is completely ignoring the entire student body that likes to read the Daily Kansan every morning.

Maybe this president wrote this column, too: http://www.theonion.com/content/opinion/my_constituents_care_way_more

At the school where I work elections are this week and half of the senate districts have no candidates. As far as I can tell, all student government does is collect a pretty hefty stipend for doing practically nothing except ego-stroking and résumé-building.

Keep us posted on what happens; this is interesting. Not many respectable schools would let this happen.

    Incorrect.

There are multiple student newspapers that fund themselves through advertising, and are financially independent of the university. Unless you think the Indianas and Floridas of the world are not "respectable" journalism schools.

Alma is correct: it would be funny to see what happens if the newspaper just says it won't covers student government anymore.

In any event, nothing to see here. Just typical student government: grandstanding child politicians playing with their toys.

Cut funding to the student newspaper to pay Xavier Henry. It all adds up.

Time for some healthy enterprise at the Kansan---let's start with an investigative piece on the instances of STD, underage drinking, pot smoking, cocaine snorting, academic cheating, sexual harassment, online pornography, ballot-box stuffing, and shoplifting cases involving current members of the student senate, and see where that takes us, and let's begin by taking dead aim at the student body prez and those closest to him.
