First NBA game I saw was Celtics-Knicks at the Garden with my brother and uncle. Fell in love with Bailey Howell, who had a big game. Not sure if he was part of the dynasty, I think they only won one title with him? He's still alive. His son-in-law is the AD at Florida.

Two titles with Bailey, IIRC. Got him for Mel Counts, a trade that sent Philly mad with rage Red had fucked us again, which he had. May I add that covering Auerbach, who I saw as evil incarnate as a kid, was a complete blast. Never ducked a question (he'd lie like a rug, but that's different), challenged you every moment, couldn't have been better training for a young sports reporter.

Fleeced the Bullets for Howell, if memory serves.
