JV, jayvee or junior varsity?

Damn you all, you mat men....

 

I don't have my AP Stylebook here, but I seem to think jayvee is AP style. Gomer is right, I've seen it used in SI and a couple other national places recently.

Regardless, it's lame. Perhaps we should start putting aaapee instead of AP.

 

Please let me know if it's in the stylebook. It's certainly not in Canadian Press style... I checked.

Based on this thread and a couple other people I've talked to about this, looks like jayvee is exiting stage right.

I despise seeing jayvee in any print.

A guy at one of the local weeklies does it all the damn time.

We've always done junior varsity first ref, JV afterward.
