As the article points out, this is not a surprise. Probably a good idea to announced it sooner rather than later. The buzz on this could help Batman vs. Superman as I suspect anticipation of The Avengers was helpful to the Marvel movies that came out after it had been announced, including Captain America: The First Avenger.

    Agreed.

But will the solo Aquaman movie do as well as THIS?!

Very cool, in theory, but with the exception of Batman, DC movies have been woefully inferior to Marvel and this already feels like an inferior announcement.

DC needs a megahit from a character beyond Batman and Superman as "proof of concept" that they can follow Marvel's playbook. In other words, they need Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern or Aquaman to have a standalone hit. They tried and failed with arguably the most bankable of that group with Green Lantern, which grossed a little more than half its $200m budget in domestic box office.

I'm excited for Batman v Superman. I'll pretty much always see any movie involving either (or both) characters. I can't say the same about the rest of the JLA stable, and that's where DC falls short. DC has a tough sell to get movie goers to see the individual movies as they have with Thor, Captain America and, of course, Iron Man.

They could easily do a John Stewart Green Lantern and explain away Hal.
Wonder Woman might be the 3rd hit...and really that's all it needs.

Look how they flopped with The Hulk and it still worked.

But I will agree, JLA is great in theory, but it may not explode the way Avengers did. People may have superhero overkill by the time they get to the solo movies for the others solo movies.

Surprised they didn't hold on to this until Comic-Con, but they probably knew it would leak so got it out there anyway. They may also have wanted to get it out there to avoid butting heads with whatever Marvel announces in San Diego, which could include who will be voicing Thanos (*cough* Vin Diesel *cough*) and maybe another Phase Three movie or two.

I'm excited to see a Justice League movie, but I'm keeping my expectations low. "Man of Steel" disappointed me, so I don't have high hopes for Snyder being the guiding force for a DC cinematic universe, even if Christopher Nolan is guiding things behind the scenes.

Is Vin Diesel rumored to voice Thanos or is that your suggestion? Cuz I'm totally on board with him voicing Thanos. He'd be perfect.

Back when he was cast to be Groot in "Guardians of the Galaxy," it had come out first that he was going to be in a Marvel movie but not who he would be. Some rumors then had him tied to Thanos, but Marvel came out and said he'd be Groot. Considering all Groot ever says is, "I am Groot," it seems like that might have been a curveball to throw people off the scent. Plus, with rumors that Thanos might show up in a scene in GotG (probably the after-credits scene), it would make sense that Diesel was the voice since he could record that at the same time as his Groot stuff.

Gotcha. Would seem odd to have him voicing two characters in the same universe, though, right? Either way, he'd be a good fit as Thanos.

If the one actually said more than one phrase, I think it would be. But I think they could get away with it if he was doing Groot and Thanos. Could just have him do a different voice for Groot or mess with it in post-production to make it distinct, and then use something closer to his own voice for Thanos.
