Just wondering, has the flames cooled enough for this?

I'm sure there will be lots of gloating, which does zero to solve the problems of the country and plenty to create more problems around here. A major reason why I would vote no.

Somehow, despite HappyPerfectLand siphoning off "all" the members and traffic and no politics allowed here, we're doing just fine.

It just sucks because it's news. I wish we could discuss it as news. But I understand.

I've found this place to be extraordinarily more peaceful and reasonable without the politics, and I've gotten a lot more out of the discussions. Very few posters are caricatures for one side or the other. Almost no blood-boiling anger.

Whatever I thought I'd miss (mostly links and such) when it shut down, getting rid of the politics board has been a great call.

Contrary to what you may think, I did NOT pay the posters above to say that. Though I'm tempted to do so anyway.

Seriously, gang, I love you all. I also wish we could discuss politics as reasonable and mature adults. We've proven repeatedly we can't. So it is the price we pay.

PrintDust is one of the very few who keeps bringing it up. As others have noted, there are other places to go and scratch that ol' political itch. Find one, eh?

But if you really want to turn down the anger on this place, Moddy, you'd ban all discussion of baseball's salary and revenue structure.

There's no reason for a politics board. The Republican Party died two years ago.

I have no interest in changing anyone's mind or having mine changed. I just like discussing the news, what's happening in the world outside of sports and TV, what's the big deal of the day. Over the next few weeks, that will include an election with significant impact on our lives.

Of course we can all live without a politics board here, the peace has been nice (although I don't think it's primarily because of the lack of a politics board). It would just make things a little more interesting.

I think the death penalty thread was a pretty good example of how it can work.

But when 97 percent of the board is going to be pissed off while the other three percent of us gloat, it's a recipe for disaster. Old Tony and I can gloat together on Facebook. :)

    No politics. The end.

Well said. We'll end it on that.
