Columnist pens piece decrying the rise of sabermetrics:

Some interesting thoughts from him on the movement.

It’s one thing to have these statisticians, it’s another to write about them.

They know exactly where every pitch ever thrown has been placed.

“27 percent of his sliders hit the inside corner of the plate, providing the temperature is above 63 degrees and the wind is out of the south at less than 9 mph.”

It has infiltrated every aspect of the game.

Miguel Cabrera won the Triple Crown in 2012.

And there was a debate as to who deserved the MVP.

    Why?

    Sabermetrics, whatever that means.

Ted Williams won the triple crown twice, but didn't win the MVP either time.

Chuck Klein and Lou Gehrig had the same thing happen to them once.

Saw this on Deadspin too. Man, they're really going after the big fish now.

So basically he wants Mike Trout?

What's more dated, the newspaper column or anti-sabermetric movement?

Hell, Octave, particularly with pitching, with Pitch F/X data available readily now, the sabermetric movement is somewhat dated, too.

My mom can still get after it.
It just seems like the particular extremes are keeping a fight going that most everyone else has grown bored with. And Deadspin was not always saber-friendly, so it's their typical third-party trolling.

Columnists and ex-jock TV/radio analysts are cut from the same cloth on this one.

The fans seem to care a lot less than the opinion propogators --- on both sides --- trying to maintain their relevance.

Intractable nerd vs. archaic angry guy = not fun to watch in 2014.
They both need to fuck off together.
    Or go coach youth baseball.
