The Clarion-Ledger is a Pulitzer Prize winning newspaper and supports one of the strongest digital products in Gannett. In 2015, we won a Grand Slam from the Associated Press Sports Editors.

The Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) is home to three Mississippi teams, including Jackson State University — one of the largest schools in the state. The Clarion-Ledger is known for providing award-winning,

comprehensive coverage of their sports teams. This reporter will provide multiple blog updates each day, complete

coverage of team activities, provide detailed game previews and post-game analysis, participate in video shows, live chats and podcasts with other members of the and sports team, and utilize our CMS to update the front of the JSU and SWAC sports webpages.

This position will also help cover high school and recruiting, which is a key part of The Clarion-Ledger's sports department.

    Your typical duties will include:

    * Developing high-impact investigative, revelatory and narrative stories that are tailored to

individual audiences, on clearly defined subjects, across platforms and guided by metrics. Works

toward becoming the community’s leading voice in area of expertise. Provides thoughtful

analysis of complex issues and produces sophisticated journalism with minimal direction.

    * Collaborate and connect with the community through storytelling and outreach (social media,

on camera, forums, community leadership, etc.)

    * Collaborate with content team to provide all the appropriate elements for the story (i.e. photos,

videos and graphics). Captures basic photos and video as needed.

    * Promote personal brand, the brands of colleagues and the institutional brand.

This is a full-time position offering a base salary and benefits including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and 401K with company match.

The Clarion-Ledger is the largest daily in Mississippi and a leader in digital innovation. A member of the Gannett Co., we are a drug free, EEO employer committed to a diverse workforce. We will consider all qualified candidates regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age, marital status, personal appearance, sexual orientation, family responsibilities, disability, education, political affiliation or veteran status. We welcome you to apply.

Come work for us -- we won an APSE Grand Slam and then fired our sports editor.

Last time I looked, a few minutes ago, there was already someone in this job ...

Could be leaving on their own. Sadly, Gannett no longer gets that benefit of the doubt.

Now that would be a stone cool job, and I say that having kicked around the Olympic world in the past. Good for her.

My understanding, flawed though it might be, was that the recruiting writer position was eliminated.

Considering the interest in SEC recruiting, that sounds stu.... Never mind.

Knowing just a bit of the history there, it was a long battle to get management to buy into the idea of having a recruiting writer. Hi ho.

I believe they have folded the recruiting coverage in with the preps reportage and eliminated the separate recruiting reporter position.

This ad might as well read: "We want you to work 95 hours a week, eat, breathe, drink, speak and sleep your job, and pay you nothing while you work yourself blind and feeble because you're a sucker and you'll do anything to be on the sideline with your heroes."

Good luck getting that Pulitzer Prize writer to cover JSU and all the other bullshit that job entails.
