Journalists scream: We're going the wrong way!

    That part is puzzling to me. I have known very few people who had complete autonomy in selecting their stories. Even the people near the top were clearly puppets dangling from strings.

    I just don't think there are enough people in newsrooms where you can afford to give reporters autonomy. City council, high school game, police incident, school board meeting, chamber of commerce hooha, and your cover story involving kids (for the art) and that is your local section.
    And it isn't just reporters, papers don't have enough editors or photogs who can spend time developing packages.
