    Stanford does a data visualization of how US newspapers grew and then receded from 1690 to 2011.

    I would love to see a comparison between the number of existent newspapers and the number of existent newspaper jobs in these eras. The map barely changes from 1990-2011, but the workforce putting out those newspapers has faced a massive decline.
