For some reason, the color digression made me think of a funny story. A buddy of mine went through a Marxist phase as a teenager...this was the early 70s. At that time, he was a student at Grand Prairie (Texas) H.S. Well, the little town of Grand Prairie (between Dallas and Arlington) was growing and they needed a second high school. So they created South Grand Prairie H.S. to serve the town's south side, where most of the "Mexicans" and other poor folk lived. Students at the old GPHS were offered the option to transfer to the new SGPHS regardless of whether they lived in the district. My buddy and some of the other countercultural types from GPHS transferred to the new school in the barrio.

The new school had a referendum to choose the new school colors. My friend and his pinko commie buddies chose red and gold in honor of global socialist revolution. Sounded good to everyone else. To this day, SGPHS proudly sports the red and gold.
