veteran backup catcher made terrific transition to broadcasting, first at WIP and Comcast SportsNet in Philly and then with mlb.com the last couple years

bright, capable guy and a total class act

    heart attack

    he was 45

    very sad

I'll always remember him for being part of the 84 Olympians subset that featured Mark McGwire. Always got more Maraznos and Oddibe McDowells than Big Reds.

  7. No way, I LOVED Johnny Marz on Phillies Post Game Live! Gosh, that's terrible. May he Rest In Peace.

Damn, he was a catching instructor at a Little League camp I went to 20+years ago. RIP.

  9. Liked John a lot when he was in Boston.
One day, in the dugout, a bunch of us were talking about Springsteen's song, "Atlantic City," especially the opening about blowing up the Chicken Man's house. Marzano said, "The two guys that did that were on my Legion team."
    Classic.

Plus, he punched Paul O'Neill. Hard to dislike a guy who did that.

    RIP.

  12. Hey, Paul's a Yankee hero.
