herbie's exact quote was something like "And that sums up Michigan State football over the last 50 years..." His numbers were off but his point is well taken.
And Wicked, MSU has more PROVEN violations over the last 30 years than MSU... and most of those came from Perles, tho Darryl Rogers and Denny Stolz helped...

One possible landing spot for JLS is Washington State. Lots of talk about Doba retiring at the end of this year no matter what goes down, and the guy who has always been considered "next" -- OC Mike Levenseller -- still hasn't locked up his degree. WSU's DC, Robb Akey, is a possibility, as is Paul Wulff at Eastern Washington, but JLS has Palouse ties and his affinity for the passing offense would make him a natural fit. That, and after 10-plus years of Mike Price, WSU folks are used to goofy antics from their coach. I'm thinking the guy is certainly coaching someplace next year.

I've seen this movie. Here's how it ends...

Zook is a brilliant recruiter, and has a staff composed almost entirely of people he's selected based on their recruiting skills. He will win at least one game each of the next two years against a top 10-15 type team no one would ever expect him to beat. He will also lose two or three games to teams he should kill, and his explanations and inane repetitions of phrases like "noise in the system" and "it's correctable" will drive Illini fans out of their minds. He'll get them to a bowl with 7 wins and never do any better. The coach who gets the job after Zook whenever the fans get fed up with the incoherent nonsense and terrible gameday decisions enough to demand his head will win a Rose Bowl.

Right now, the fans would go apeshit if Illinois won 7 games and went to a bowl. That's a big part of the problem -- the low expectations.

The coaches already have cost Illinois two wins this year against Indiana and Ohio U. The OU loss was classic dipshittery -- hesitate about calling a TO, then call it, allowing your offense to be pinned deep in its own territory. Then run risky plays that lead to a fumble, allowing OU to win the game.

Of course, we don't hear much about that in the papers.

They might have been. Who knows what would have happened in OT?

Alas, we'll never know, courtesy of the Zook coaching staff.

Beat me to the punch, Pope. Illinois is indeed better.

And great news, Shottie. I hope your wife continues to be OK.

  11. Is this Pearles threat real? If so I am sure the rest of the Big Ten is happy. Free Press and Tribune hint Mooch is someone of interest. I thought it was the most logical step but seems logic and Michigan State are not used in the same sentence often.

It is very real. Board of Trustees elections in Michigan almost always go by party-line votes, and Democratic Gov. Jennifer Granholm is pulling away from silver-spoon billionaire-boy and Bushophile Dick-head DeVos in the governor's race, meaning Perles, on the ticket as a Democrat, will probably get swept along into office on Granholm's coattails.

The minute Perles is elected, he will join forces with Joel Ferguson, his sponsor on the board throughout all the academic scandals in the 1990s, to establish iron-clad control over the entire athletic department, hell, the whole university, top to bottom.

At that point, Mariucci, Butch Davis, Ron English, Tyrone Willingham and everybody else can fold up their tricycles and go home. The new coach will be Perles stooge Pat Shurmur, who will have a direct intercom line on his desk from both Big Daddy George and Ferguson, too. Complete with a little bicycle bell they can ring-a-ding-ding any time they feel like it. ::)
