Except that they never once uttered the phrase "church and state." Other than Muslims, name someone on the political spectrum that wants to establish a national religion.

You have the actor wrong here. It is not the Dems aiming for shutdown.

OK. So, some Dems from "purple" districts used to be moderately pro-life. They mostly lost to Republicans, and the districts became more red, and voters elected representatives who more closely represented their views on a number of issues.

So, now, most Congressional Dems represent solidly Blue districts, and finding a pro-life Dem is harder than finding a unicorn.

Is it possible to be a pro-life liberal? Is it possible to even be for something like a ban on abortions performed after 20 weeks and still be a Dem in good standing, and/or represent a solidly blue district in Congress?

I may be wrong, but as I understand it the threat is that any temporary spending measure (absent which there will be a shutdown) that doesn't include funding for PP will be filibustered (or ultimately vetoed) out of hand. I guess it's true in a technical sense that the Dems don't want a shutdown ... but it's also true that a bank robber doesn't really want to shoot anyone.

Dems might not be "aiming" for a shutdown, but they won't allow a budget to pass/be signed into law that doesn't include funding for PP. They would allow a shutdown before they would agree to that.

Why are we still arguing about this? Planned Parenthood will be funded. There's going to be a clean bill. The evil Boehner cut a deal with Nancy Pelosi! Move on to your next right wing-manufactured "crisis."

And here I thought Obamacare had taken care of all of a woman's medical needs.

But the GOP thinks that they would shift their donations to non-abortion services in order to keep them going after the defunding.

And the GOP won't agree to a budget that does include funding for PP. Yet somehow you characterize this as a Democrat-inspired shutdown.

There is one side that is actively seeking a government shutdown here.

They still need a place to go to take care of those needs.
