Yeah, did I really need to use the blue font?

It's still real to me, dammit!

It's the internet upset of the century that there's no good Google images of Joe Kapp from The Longest Yard.

There has been a 48 year old animosity between these two guys.

In the Ticats/Lions Grey Cup in '63, Mosca laid a late hit on Willie Fleming, Lions' star running back and knocked him out of the game and Hamilton went on to win the Grey Cup.

Back in those days, Hamilton really was Steeltown and Mosca epitomized the lunch bucket ethic of the time. He's still God in The Hammer.

I was 14 at the time and leapt out of my chair cheering when Mosca hit Fleming. My dad looks at me and goes, "Late hit" .

Edit; Found the clip of the hit in the CBC archives

Joe Kapp also played on the Cal Final Four basketball team that defeated (I think) Jerry West and WVU for the NCAA title back in the late 1950s.

He lost one Super Bowl. Christ, his name's not Fran Tarkenton.

    Joe Kapp in a fight?

Lonnie Warwick sees nothing new here.

Thank you Double J, couldn't have said it better myself. It's like listening to someone from the backwater of Louisiana speak and label that the American accent. Christ, just because most Maritimers can't speak the language is no reason to label the rest of the country with it. So sick of it. Sorry for the rant. Needed to get that off my chest. I feel better now.

Oh and this fight was given a run for its money by the CFL officiating crew discovering about 20 minutes before kickoff that the downs marker was broken. Word was they couldn't get it to change downs. They apparently sent a search party to a local high school to get theirs. Police escort and all. I love the league, but this kind of crap just makes me shake my head.

Watching the hit, to me, it didn't look that horrific. Yeah, the runner was stretched out near the sideline, but it looked like he was still in the air and going forward.

The NFL today would probably have penalized Mosca and fined him, but to me, I was expecting a totally blatant late-hit, not a bang-bang play in which Mosca arrived a split-second too late.

I agree with you. The big thing is it injured him for the rest of the game. If the running back doesn't get injured, no one cares. You see that all the time today. My parents were still 16 or 17 years away from meeting, so I obviously didn't see it and am not familiar with the game from that era, maybe that was considered ultra late in that era, but I have no idea. JR?

A lot of backwater Louisiana people are there because their ancestors got run out of Nova Scotia. I think maybe it was for the way they talked.
