    Sports junkies wanted! Part-time sports desk reporter opportunities at a leading media organization in Michigan. Candidates must understand sports lingo, know AP style and possess great attention to detail. This is a great opportunity for college students wanting to get their feet wet in professional journalism or someone looking for a second job. Candidates must be able to work evening hours.

    The primary role of the High School Sports Central Desk Reporter is operating within a collaborative team environment, with each employee responsible for collecting game statistics and interviewing several coaches per night. Each employee creates several stories per night for the teams of more than 200 schools across the state in a deadline-oriented environment, filling the needs of our print and digital products.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Duties and Responsibilities, work schedules and/or location may change based on evolving business needs

    1. Gather information and write journalistically sound news elements for use in all media platforms, existing and future, that is:
    Balanced and factual
    Timely and topical
    Well-sourced and contextually correct

    REQUIREMENTS

    Degree in Journalism or Communications or related field preferred
    Experience in journalistic reporting and writing preferred
    Strong knowledge of sports statistics (previous experience with agate a plus)
    Ability to work independently under deadline pressure and prioritize tasks appropriately
    Solid understanding of news writing, journalistic ethics and story structure
    Ability to learn and understand search engine optimization practices
    Strong knowledge of web applications, such as blogging programs or fantasy sports applications
    Experience with using social media to source and promote content a plus
    Understanding of the methods and tools used to deliver content across a variety of platforms such as Moveable Type CMS
    Understanding imperatives of multiple platforms – print, mobile, Internet, etc.
    Working understanding of social media and digital interaction
    Ability to utilize a broad set of tools to tell stories and engage the audience
    Ability to leverage relationships with sources to deliver content that differentiates the organization from competitors

    WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    General office environment. Extensive computer use required. Ability to work nights and weekends. Friday nights are a must.
