  2. Uh, because, according to the elections that we pressured them to have, Hamas is the elected government of the territory in question?

40.8 million people, according to records. Of course, that was in 1976, but hey, you asked.

Anything short of "I'm a doddering old fool who pisses his pants at least once a day" is the wrong answer.

  7. Gosh, I hope Jimmy Carter's trip to meet with Hamas doesn't mess things up in the Middle East.

I thought Carter explained himself pretty well on the Daily Show last night.

I was going to post these on the last Carter/Hamas thread, but it was locked. It's a fascinating discussion, though, and fantastically complex morally, ethically, culturally and diplomatically. Let's try not to let this one swerve into the trees. So, in that spirit:

Asked what the air force is doing to reduce civilian casualties in Gaza, Col. Ziv Levy told Simon, "Anything and everything we can."
"And yet civilians are getting killed. Children are getting killed," Simon pointed out.
"And yes, sometimes, unfortunately, civilians are getting hit. So it's a very difficult moral dilemma, what to do," Levy said.

  10. His heart, I am sure, bleeds.
