According to Sotheby's, the typewriter, glasses, and a couple other items went for $18,000.

A handwritten letter from Ali to Murray sold for $15,600.

Typewriter went to a friend of Linda Murray's who helped her put the auction together, proceeds to the Murray Scholarship Foundation....Times/Dwyer was underbidder...all according to Dwyer...

  3. Met him at the Belmont when my father was beginning to die back home.
I was sitting alone under a tree at 6 a.m., waiting to get into the barns, and Muray came over and chatted me up. Said some complimentary things about my work -- "YOU"RE that guy?" -- and talked to me for a long time about what was going on in my life at that moment. Prompted me to talk about my father's service in WWII, about his love for the woods, and I didn't even realize I was doing it.
    I bless his memory.
