Late 80s he was one of the top 3-4 QB's in the NFL.

he put up some big numbers a couple seasons, but in the late 80s Montana, Marino, Elway and Kelly were playing. was Everett even better than Boomer Esiason or Phil Simms? not to sound like Rome but he definitely wasn't tougher or a better leader than those guys.

I don't understand how this isn't a parody thread. Boomer Esiason isn't making it, and he was clearly a better quarterback in every regard than Everett, particularly in their respective primes.

The midpoint of Everett's career was 1991. These quarterbacks (Hall of Famers denoted by asterisk) were also in the NFL in 1991:

    *Dan Marino
    *John Elway
    *Steve Young
    Brett Favre
    *Jim Kelly
    *Warren Moon
    Boomer Esiason
    Phil Simms
    Dave Krieg
    Ken O'Brien
    Rich Gannon
    Vinny Testaverde

All of those guys had better careers than Everett. You could even make reasonable cases for Jim McMahon, Jim Harbaugh and Jeff George.

Is there anyone on this planet who thinks he's better than Esiason or Simms?

Hell, I think Gannon was a better QB than Everett.

  6. Everett should have beat Jim Rome's ass. Period.

Since all he did was push him he's not worthy of the Hall.

It's the Hall of Fame, not the Hall of Adequate.

I live for a good HOF debate, but 75 percent of these threads are for guys who will never, ever get close to making the HOF.

Are you suggesting the Pat Burrell thread wasn't a legitimately crafted debate?

The Jim Rome deal sure looked staged to me.

Rome told me he thought Everett staged it.
