I was going to make a similar post. If he was that good, he would already be on the active roster. Hell, they already had three rookie LBs on the active roster (Mayo, Crable and Guyton) until Crable went on IR a couple weeks ago. Not sure how much of a beast he could possibly be.

Good point, but he's a 6-foot-6, 255 pound linebacker with remarkable athleticism and quickness. He absolutely dominated in college (albeit, at Liberty).

I heard some grumblings about off-the-field issues at Virginia under Al Groh.

I love bottom of the roster guys as much as anyone, but PS players seldom amount to big-time players. Just for you, BB, I compiled a list of the players who spent time on the practice squad for New England last year (complete waste of time on a slow day). Here you go:

Jason Radar
Zach West
Antwann Spann
Gemara Williams
David Greene
Ray Ventrone
Bam Childress
CJ Jones
Corey Mays
Clint Oldenberg
Santonio Thomas
Kyle Eckel
Pat Ross
Tim Mixon
Kyle Bissinger

Off that list, only Ventrone and Spann are with the team now, and both play minor roles that could be filled rather easily. Over the years, the guys who spend time on the practice squad are most often little more than warm bodies. Do some make a significant impact? Sure, see Stephen Neal, for example, who has become a very good right guard. That, however, is more the exception than the rule. Even he bounced from New England to Philly and back to New England before becoming a solid starter.

The fact that a guy is 6-6, 250 with great athleticism doesn't mean anything. If he could truly play, he'd be in there.

Don't forget about Green-Ellis, who was an undrafted FA on the practice squad earlier this season.

I don't necessarily think Redd would become anything special, but that size and skillset is intriguing. Especially when their LB core is very thin - Thomas is out for the year, while Bruschi and even Vrabel are shells of their former selves. Mayo has been the team's best defensive player (by far) and Guyton has been a pleasant surprise as well. Then you have iffy guys like Eric Alexander/Pierre Woods, and Larry Izzo, who's pretty much only on the roster for his special team excellence.

That linebacking corps almost makes the DB look good.
