Good call. Italian Ice from the Lighthouse is also a solid choice.

Never been to either, but NBC's Brian Williams says Max's is better.

About a year ago, we were driving south to Temecula, and we stopped for coffee and bagels around Valencia/Castaic. Kind of between them.
Anyway, I was wearing my Mack & Manco shirt, and this woman walks up behind me, grabs me by the arm and spins me around.
'Oh my god,' she says. 'Is there a Mack & Manco in California now?'
She was so obviously excited, and she looked genuinely hurt when I broke the bad news.

I spent many, many a 4th of July down the shore. I'm sort of bummed I won't be there this year. Have fun!

Moby's in Atlantic Highlands for a casual fried chicken-and-clams dinner on the deck overlooking the Navesink, Bahr's right next door for more formal dining.

And, yes, Max's has the best hotdogs.

I prefer Windmill over Max's, but both are quality.

There is a great ices place in Long Branch. I think it is called Strollo's, but I could be wrong on the name.

Lots of good suggestions on here and we barely had time to scratch the surface last year. We're headed back next week. If you know of any new places, please post. Also, if anyone's going to be around next week and wants to have a drink, shoot me a PM. Thanks!

All the best spots at the Jersey shore are located from Long Beach Island and south.
