CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) - Gov. Jon S. Corzine was apparently riding without a seat belt, in violation of state law, when he was critically injured in the crash of his official vehicle, a spokesman said Friday.

A state trooper was at the wheel and the governor was sitting as usual in the front passenger seat when the SUV slammed into a guard rail Thursday night, authorities said. Corzine broke a leg, his breastbone, 12 ribs and a vertebra.

Corzine, 60, was sedated and on a breathing tube, and a doctor who helped treat him said the governor was fortunate he was not more seriously hurt.

He wasn't wearing a seat belt, either. Bad move Corzine, bad move.

Speaking as someone fortunate to survive an accident this week, I hope he recovers and is back on his feet soon.

Speaking as someone fortunate to survive an accident this week because he was wearing his seat belt, HOW IN THE FUCK DOES A GOVERNOR OF A MAJOR STATE NOT UNDERSTAND WHY IT'S IMPORTANT TO WEAR ONE?

Here's hoping he survives, learns to click it and tells a good story about it for a PSA or elementary school assembly.

Give him a ticket as part of the "Click It or Ticket It" campaign.

I would love to see that happen. It floors me that some people still don't wear seat belts.

Oops, extraneous "it" after Ticket. Thought still applies, though.

    No seat belt. Dumb.

I believe the state trooper or aide that was driving the car he was in will be ticketed due to Corzine not wearing a seat belt. In NJ, the person not wearing a seat belt doesn't get a ticket, the driver gets the ticket as the state law says its the driver's responsibility to make sure all passengers are wearing seat belts.

This being a sports site, Corzine on DL, possibly out for election season. Citiznes consult with league commissioner about terminating his contract for performing an inherently dangerous act.

He had a great mid-range jumper, too. Oops, wrong Corzine.
