So you don't condemn the noose hangings?

Only comparing blacks to child molestors, rapists and murderers today eh? Must be softening your stance.

    Jesus Christ you're stupid.

Yeah, it would. That's because a noose would mean almost nothing to a white person. It doesn't carry the historical significance to whites.

Ragu, that was a wonderful post.
I just have a huge problem with Columbia acting all holier than thou when they let in a dictator whose culture treats females worse than the gum that gets stuck on your shoe.

The only honest thing about most bigots is that you don't really have to do much to expose them. They open their mouths and what they are becomes immediately apparent.

That's most bigots. But there are too many closet bigots out there.

The Ahmadenijad invite was stupid for so, so many reasons. Methinks Bollinger used it just for his 15-minute grandstand.

Yes, but so typical. Bring in someone who proudly wants to kill Jews, wipe out Israel and has supported mass murderers and pat yourself on the back for being the beacon of Freedom. But have an apocalyptic fit because of a noose on a black professor's door.

It's a university--which by its nature is a bastion of free, open and liberal thinking. Ahmadenijad is a controversial world leader. He never appears on U.S. soil. Why was the invite stupid? It 1) gave those students unfettered access to someone who has been labeled a madman and whose country was labeled as part of the "Axis of Evil," and 2) It made the point that here--unlike in places like Iran--we are not afraid of free and open speech--even speech we don't agree with. We'll engage anyone's ideas without suppression, even a Holocaust denier.

The invite didn't endorse Ajmandenijad or his ideas. It just gave those students access to someone controversial who is never accessible to Americans. We shouldn't fear free and open speech. We should allow it and challenge it if appropriate. If most of the world had liberal attitudes such as those, we wouldn't have half the problems we do. When you suppress speech, you give rise to ignorance. When you allow it, you let the best ideas dictate attitudes.

Seriously, if someone tacked a noose on my door. I'd probably think, "Oh, rope. That could be handy!"

If I were black, the reaction would be completely different.
