Mike Scioscia's wet dream will be around another season. He's a horrible player, offensively and defensively. Scioscia loves him.

Mathis at $1.7 million for one year is worse than the Jason Werth contract.

Approximately what does an unproven left-handed pitcher out of the bullpen get a year?

At least Melky hit .255 last year.

Why is melky cabrera on this thread?

Mathis' best average is .211. Twice.

Mathis' damage to the Angels was limited. He only had about 200 plate appearances.

Cabrera OPS'd a robust .671 in 500-plus plate appearances. He also was a terrible defensive outfielder. He did more harm to the Braves than Mathis did to the Angels.

To be fair, Mathis was out two or three months.

Mathis' career .199 average is still 30 points higher than his own teammate Brandon Wood's career average.

Mike will make sure Wood gets a raise this year.

Jeff Mathis is a bargain for 1.7 mil. Wait until he's MVP!

I covered Jeff Mathis a couple games in high school in Florida panhandle. Best player on that HS team was a pitcher named Alan Horne who threw 94-95, was a 1st rounder, turned down the money, blew arm out, bounced from Ole Miss to Chipola to UF and I think he's in the Yankees system now. Was picked in like the 18th round.

Both those guys were can't miss prospects. Now Mathis is hitting a Taco Supreme (.199) and the other guy is still in the minors.
