Florida doesn't have javelin. I covered a meet in Louisiana (which still has javelin) where a kid took a javelin straight through the foot. He was walking across the field (his own fault) and walked directly into the path of the javelin, which went through his foot.

You only cover us when we kill officials with javelins.

Mother always said not to run while holding sharp pointed objects.

Stupid question: Do they really need to make the things so pointy?

I didn't think that any of these were still on the road.

Would I be driving one if they were still on the road?

    Probably.

My grandmother drove a Javelin in the 70s, as I recall. Dumbest design ever. The steering wheel had a tube that ran all around the inside of the wheel. That was the horn. It was almost impossible to turn the wheel without honking.

Fewer than 20 states include the javelin among HS track & field events. Can't we just all agree to throw the hammer, instead? Maybe we can compromise and put some points on it, like the Medieval mace?

North Dakota required rubber tips for high schoolers? How many other states require them?

Javelin is a great event. Very technical. This is a tragedy, to be sure. But the javelin is great.
