Jann Wenner Loses His Mind

Discussion in 'Anything goes' started by Fenian_Bastard, Apr 23, 2007.

  1. How about the Beatle's Helter Skelter while we are at it?

  2. I was thinking about Yankee Doodle, but all the history I've read said that it was a kind of pick-up tune at the last minute during the Revolution. I confess to fanning on the Battle Hymn, though. Pedroia-esque grab on your part.

Britney didn't change our world, obviously. But she altered the prism that any female from age 8 to about age 25 right now sees her world.

REM should be on there, probably for "Radio Free Europe"

    "Imagine" doesn't belong.

And Britney didn't really start anything--she was just another wave in the teen pre-fabricated pop idols created during the 90s, following the likes of N Sync. I guess if you want to track back to the originators of that movement, you end up with New Kids on the Block...

Captain, Britney Spears was an absolute pop culture phenomenon when she first hit. It's easy to forget that now, but she was.

Without looking at the list, some of the songs I would think changed the pop/rock music world:

    --Smells Like Teen Spirit.
    --Rock Around the Clock.
    --Video Killed the Radio Star.
--Since You've Been Gone (Kelly Clarkson version).
--God Save the Queen (Sex Pistols version).
--God Only Knows (Beach Boys version).
    --I Wanna Hold Your Hand.

I reserve the right to add.

How did a White Stripes song change the world?

Nice job of spelling, there, on Aerosmith.

I'm gonna agree with the general sentiment here regarding Britney Spears. And yes, while it is very true that what she did was nothing new and that she was just the next in a long line of pre-packaged teen-pop shit-shows, she arguably had more of a pop-culture influence than all of the others combined.

    I stand corrected.
