Jan. 1, 1972-Dec. 31, 1981: the greatest decade in original movie music ever?

Here's my top baker's dozen from that decade:

    Godfather
    Rocky
    Jaws
    Star Wars
    Chariots of Fire
    Raiders of the Lost Ark
    Superman
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
    Fame
    The Spy Who Loved Me
    The Omen
    Grease
    Saturday Night Fever (thanks dp)

It almost seems like good movie music is out of style.

Godfather II doesn't crack your list? Or The Empire Strikes Back?

I guess I consider those, to some extent, variation on a theme.

But you are correct that those would count.

You also left out Grease and Saturday Night Fever.

Christ. Obviously belong on my list.

Well it was off the top of my head.

Subliminal Travolta hate there, I guess.

  9. It should be mentioned here that Grease blows goats. (And wasn't "original movie music" anyway.)

Some of the Grease songs were written and performed specifically for the movie.

I dunno, as a child of the '80s I seriously heart '80s soundtracks.

But that is a great list Columbo has compiled.
