    TMZ now alleging a cover-up:

One thing to keep in mind that I learned from Ivan Maisel's podcast today --- if Winston is charged with a felony, he's automatically ineligible to play under university policy. He can thank Peter Warrick for that rule.

TMZ, the noted football experts they are, also claim Winston being suspended would "kill" FSU's national championship hopes.
Even with backup Jacob Coker going out for the season, FSU does have a four-star, Sean Maguire, who has some experience and by all accounts, a strong arm. Worst-case scenario, Maguire could easily game-manage the Seminoles over Syracuse, Idaho, Florida and whatever horseshit team emerges from the mess that is the ACC Coastal division. That still gets them in the BCS championship.
Of course if they don't have Winston in that game, then it might come down to Alabama's defense outscoring FSU's defense.

Johnny Football is the best college football player in the land. Period. But the waterboy at Utah State will win the Heisman before Johnny will ever repeat.

You don't think a Winston-less FSU would lose significant human poll votes to Baylor or Ohio State, even if they keep winning?

If they win their games, how can they get penalized for having one player out? And if those voters do penalize the rest of the team for one guy, shame on them.

Voters rank teams based on who they think are the best teams in the country. And FSU without its starting quarterback, let alone the Heisman Trophy front-runner, is no longer as good a team.

Ok, fair enough. But would the same policy to a non-athlete in the police report?

True dat. There's been exactly one repeat Heisman winner in history. It's going to take someone of off-the-chart caliber to join that exclusive a club.

You know many sportswriters who cover non-athletes?
