Four candidates in for interviews, three already done and one to come. I know one of the four - won't mention his name now - and he'd be an excellent choice. Don't know the names of the others so I don't know how my man stacks up. If they beat up, they're damn good.

An offer has been made. To one of the four.
Congrats to what is an excellent choice - IF he accepts as I assume he will. No names from me until I know he has done so.

    Details:

Michael C. Wright has accepted a job from the Florida Times-Union in
Jacksonville, Fla. He will cover the NFL's Jaguars, arguably the top beat
the paper has. Michael joined us in January 2004 and quickly proved himself
to be a outstanding reporter and teammate. He started off covering high
schools for us, and then was moved to the Washington Redskins. He developed
as a writer and reporter because he constantly pushed himself to become
better. He said yesterday that you can't take a day off here because you
want to be as good as the people you are working with. That's a fine
compliment to everyone, as well as to him.
Michael's last day here will be July 19. Please wish him good luck, and you
can be sure we will be hitting him up for a place to stay when we are in
    Florida.

"Here" is Newport News, Va., a fine paper its own self and, no, I don't know what they're going to do to replace Michael.

Nice hire... Beat out some NFL vets to get this gig...

Heard this became a backup position because they wanted to do it on the cheap.

Good luck to Michael, though. He's going to need it working with Vito.

I seriously doubt that's true... It's by far the paper's biggest beat and in most NFL cities papers have two full-time beat writers...
