Your paper did not put Elvis' death on the front?

    Wow. Just wow.

The NBC Evening News just spent 15 minutes on Jackson-Fawcett. Crap, this is huge news.
On a personal note, I'm stunned. Michael was such a virile stud. To go at 50...

That's what I was told. I'm going to hit the morgue to confirm later.

That there would even be a discussion shows the "brains" that have led newspapers into their current state. How hard can it be to post something on the web and get local reaction and find a "superfan." You want to sell newspapers, something people will buy and save for years, you put it on the front.
Local, local, local shouldn't be about geography but about the biggest news people in the local area are interested in.

    I agree completely.

I'm trying to make that point to TPTB. But they ain't listening.

If you don't want to put MJ's death on the front page, then you're not a NEWSpaper.

If you're going local, local, local, local, then you need to get out there and hit the streets and see how people in YOUR area are affected by this.

Unless it is an in-stone rule, my response would be "So?"
It's the day's top news story. Period.

Jesus, Inky, if the business wasn't so bizarre right now, I'd honest to god think you're kidding. Sadly, I know you're not.

By the way, Elvis' death was my first (and one of my only) "stop the presses" of my career. PM paper in Wisconsin.

    Our headline: ELVIS DEAD

    OK, it wasn't creative.

Anyone debating this should be forced to show their hands and tell us what they're putting on the front instead and then justify it.

Unless the President or a former President dies between now and your deadline, this is A1 above the fold.

The happiest man in America right now is the South Carolina Governor.
