    1) No way, no how am I giving the government my bank account number
    2) They didn't give me an option to have direct deposit and if they did, they could have gotten my routing and account number off the check I sent in to pay what I owed with my tax form
    3) With my SS number I don't think direct deposit would have come through until late May/early June anyway (vs. this late June for the paper check)

I got a notice in the mail that I should have had mine by last Monday.

Yes, because if the government wanted to do something nefarious, they couldn't possibly discover your bank account number. :)

Didn't spnited say that 50 years ago? Oh wait, that'll be Mikey in 54 years.

Does anything typify the waste of this government as much as sending out 140 million letters for the sole purpose of telling taxpayers "You should be getting your refund by xxxx"?

Just send the bleeping checks. And save the $60 million postage.

I sent my return late. I don't expect it until August or September, frankly. That was part of my punishment.

That's what I did and thought, too.

I still don't get the logic.
Who cares when you did your return? Nothing but the number of dependents matter. Why you're waiting until August makes no sense to me.

I realized that shortly after I typed it. But I'd rather receive a check from the IRS than have it deposited (and before anyone asks, I have direct deposit at work).
Between capital gains and itemizing deductions I don't think its possible for me to file electronically (especially since I've owed money the last few years).
Since I haven't received a refund there was no way for me to give them my bank account number to direct deposit my stimulus check So I'm awaiting the check.

    Not at all.

Capital gains and itemizing don't affect e-filing at all, Joe.
And if you owed, you could have had direct withdrawl from your checking account, just like you can get direct deposit for a refund.
I've done both in various years and never had a problem.

I owed a few bucks this year. Filed on-line on a Friday, money was taken out of my account on Tuesday.
