I wouldn't mind it if it gave readers more coverage (maybe one team beat guy becomes a league beat guy), instead of giving the papers an opportunity to cut staffs.

And with that, both papers take a big hit, and the Metroplex becomes just another area in the USA. Sad. Sad. Sad.

appreciate the alert on this because i've got a couple of friends working at both papers and didn't realize this had come about. will need to check on them to learn more. hate to hear this.
and what this does is just add one more freakin' gloomy story to our profession, doesn't it?

micke, spend some more time here and you'll see that all the stories are gloomy, just with different datelines and names.

“This arrangement allows both papers to reduce expenses, eliminate duplicative stories and still maintain high quality exclusive coverage our readers have come to expect,” said Robert W. Mong Jr., editor of The News, in a memo to staffers.

    Exclusive?

I must not understand the meaning of the word.

one of the friends i mentioned on my thread last night, that i know at the Dallas-Fort Worth tandem sports group, emailed me this a.m. to tell me about their new setup. he just send me the clipping everybody else is seeing, but would reply back later with more details.
yea, that "exclusive" baffles me, too.
