Only one nation in the history of mankind has ever used nuclear weapons on another people.

And it happens to be the nation that's scared shitless that SOMEBODY ELSE will do so.

Obama's been selling this deal hard.

Chuck Schumer, for one, isn't buying:

Senator Chuck Schumer, the most influential Jewish voice in Congress, said Thursday night that he would oppose President Obama’s deal to limit Iran’s nuclear program.

“Advocates on both sides have strong cases for their point of view that cannot simply be dismissed,” Mr. Schumer, Democrat of New York, said in a lengthy statement. “This has made evaluating the agreement a difficult and deliberate endeavor, and after deep study, careful thought and considerable soul-searching, I have decided I must oppose the agreement and will vote yes on a motion of disapproval.”

Doesn't look like it was a real profile in courage though:

A White House official suggested Thursday that Schumer's announcement of opposition came only after enough Democratic support was assured to keep the plan intact. A person familiar with the senator's thinking confirms the White House was informed of Schumer's plans to come out in opposition to the Iran deal before his position was made public.

One source close to the New York delegation's discussions told CNN that Schumer was expected to hold off making his opposition public until the math was clear that Republicans wouldn't be able to assemble votes for an override, though the source thought Schumer would wait until the fall to announce.

Because it's highly doubtful that some nations would use nuclear weapons in the limited way that we did to end WWII.

I have wondered for years how any Jewish person could have voted for this president or supported this administration.

Every nuclear nation for 70 years has used them in the most limited way possible --- not at all. Not aggressively. Not defensively. Not preemptively.

  9. Wasn't it Schumer who earlier this week was reported to have "Lost it" with a group of people lobbying him to oppose the deal?
Based on that, it sounded to me that he doubled down on backing the deal.
    Now comes this ...

Bill Kristof took a shot a Schumer for the way he did this: making sure Obama had the votes and releasing a statement during the Republican debate.

I'm no fan of this deal, but Kristof makes a fair point.

Supposedly he was going to release a statement today, after giving the WH a heads up yesterday, but the WH leaked the news to the HuffPost, so he released the statement last night.

Doesn't seem unusual. As long as the votes are there to override, Schumer gets to take some political cover, right?
