Spent some time yesterday with a friend who is Israeli...he's a doctor in the US now, married with kids, he's around 40.

His family still lives in Israel...talks to them every day. They are all in bunkers--all homes built after a certain date are required to have underground bomb shelters, so they go down there whenever the sirens go off, which is pretty much constantly.

He was a captain in the Israeli army at the age of 19, leading a tank battalian in Lebanon about 20 years ago. His description of the landscape there is chilling. 'They are cockroaches,' he said of the Hezbollah, 'they exist in tunnels under civilian communities, so deep and vast and protected that you have to go through the women and children to get to them.'

Being an Israeli, he said, means accepting that your enemy doesn't want to rule you, or steal from you, or change your mind about anything--they just want you dead.

I think too few people really seem to get this. Rarely agree with David Brooks, but his columns about this have been excellent.

I'm continually amazed that more people don't understand this point. You cannot negotiate with somebody who wants to kill you. You have to kill him first. People may not like to hear that but it's the truth. The only way there will be peace in the Middle East is when one side wipes the other off the map.

Israel is a sovereign nation and has a right to defend itself. Hizbollah is nothing more than a bunch of cowards (hiding behind women and children, BTW) who need to be hunted down and killed like the rabid dogs they are.

That's the bitch about fighting terrorists, ain't it? They just don't give a shit. They don't negotiate and they don't want a truce. They want anyone who doesn't agree with their views (Americans, Israelis, etc.) dead. That's the only option. In other words, the wars in Lebanon and Iraq are virtually unwinnable for Israel and the USA. Even if Hezbollah/Al-Qaida/other similar losers back off, they'll never go away. They'll be back with a vengence.

That doesn't mean you shouldn't hunt down and kill as many of them as you can.

And yes, I know how that sounds. I don't give a fuck.

Then tell us what the Christians -- or Israelis -- should do?
