Isiah Thomas: The Knicks haven't made NYCers "proud" since 1973.

The early/mid-90 Knicks got the absolute most out of their abilities. They played fantastic defense and squeezed the most out of an offense which had a guy like Starks as the number 2 option. Was it as fun to watch as other teams? Of course not -- but it was some excellent basketball.

Sure, the Pistons might hire Isiah for some sort of duty . . . should they feel they're tired of winning, for whatever reason.

Actually, they played Bad Boys sludgeball -- ripped off directly from Isiah and the Pistons.

The ruination of the entire sport of basketball, for about 15 years (and counting).

I love the way the New York yokels defend those dreadful Knick teams on this thread. They sound like moms of the local little league team which almost made it to Williamsport, PA.

Isiah Thomas is one of the most despicable persons on this planet.

And he only gets worse every day.

No, it was not. It was pathetitude.

Funny how the world excoriated the NHL over its 1990s playing style but gave the NBA a free pass when it had the hardcourt version of the same thing.

Did they played the beautiful offensive game? No.

Did they run the same pick and roll set the entire 4th quarter of every important game? Yes. But it was pretty efficient as long as the 2 guard doesn't miss 17 shots.

But they were a fantastic defensive team who had the misfortune of peaking at the same time as Jordan was in his prime.

And that's the thing: basketball is an offensive game. Thugball wins championships, but it's unwatchable dreck when you're sitting in row 20.

Last time I checked, those Knicks sold out every game for the entire decade and had huge local TV ratings. So it couldn't be that unwatchable.

The locals loved it. Nobody else cared. Hooray for the local bumpkins. To the rest of the country, it was unwatchable dreck.

    Ah, that makes tremendous sense.
