Shrug. If she paid people, the Gawkers of the world would say it wasn't enough unless it was too much then they would say she's an idiot for paying unknown talent to open. And the exposure the opening acts is worth something. If they sell merchandise and have a table in the lobby with their whatevers, it makes it doubly worthwhile.

If she was hot, or even very attractive on the level of Fey or Poehler, then much of the criticism directed at her would go to something else. Right now, she's being dismissed because she isn't what people consider attractive.

Not a NY Times piece, but this has been making the rounds on the Internet this week.

She's apologizing after catching some flack for her ... I guess you'd call it a poor choice of words ... regarding her sister and sexual curiosity.

I love "Girls," but if anything, that account is soft-pedaling things. She's being criticized for touching her sister's vagina in stories that are omitting:

- Her paying her sister in candy and doing "everything a pedophile would do" for long kisses on the lips
- Masturbating in bed next to her sister (from what I can find, this was when she was 17 and her sister was 10)
- Calling her sister "sexual property"
- Watching whatever her sister wanted on TV as long as her sister would "relax on her" while they watched

The masturbation story, in particular, is extremely disturbing to me. I hate to pull the "IF!" card, and I especially hate to claim any kind of male victimization, but if a man wrote that book, he'd never work again.

 

Or be subject to the legal system -- like Stephen Collins?
