Is the text message an appropriate way to set up an interview?

We're using text messages more and more.

When our local PGA Tour golfer is playing, and we need to get a hold of him, we just send him a text. We've run into too many times where his voice-mail box has been full. He's called us back every time when he gets a text.

One of the guys I have to deal with is especially hard to reach, so I just send him a text.

Again, whatever technology you can use, use it.

Most people pretty much prefer to text these days. Several times I have called someone's cell and gotten no answer. Then I text and get an immediate response.

If I get someone's cell number through a third party, I'll text them first, tell them who I am and ask for a time to call ... works 95 percent of the time.

I also have used Facebook to contact sources. I don't send a friend request, just a message. I dont think it's intrusive. They are free to ignore my request, and some have.
