Is recruiting and hiring considered stealing?

    Editude is correct. Howard wasn't accusing anyone of stealing; he was simply exploring a non-issue. No sports editor "worth his salt" --- I'm surprised that cliche didn't turn up in the story --- can complain about a staff member choosing to leave unless the staffer breaks a personal promise to stay a reasonable amount of time.

    I could put it in simpler terms:
    The only way to get a substantial raise in this industry and improve your quality of life (financially):
    1) Find a job you're willing to take, present it to current employer.
    Current employer can then do one of two things. Increase your pay/rank. Or, tell you to pound sand.
    If the latter, see No. 2.
    2) Take that job and move.
