Is NBC News treading Al-Jazeera territory?

Thought this part of the discussion merited its own thread.
NBC's decision to air the video is getting blasted by many in talk-show land.
They do have a point. Is it a valid one?

Re: Is NBC the new Al-Jazeera?

They are blasting NBC because they didn't receive the tape themselves. Had FOX News received one, they would have aired it as well.

As such, the other networks, because they were unable to do so, can claim to be of a higher moral caliber.

Ah, here comes the Al-Jazeera bashing again. Let's get this straight: It was formed by BBC journalists, and it is a legit news operation.

A legit news operation that previously has shown tapes of beheadings and of suicide bombers making their final statements. This is correct, no?

... and funded by the ruling family of Qatar.

And "getting bashed in talk-show land" is a pretty good indicator that you've done something right.

Tapes of beheadings? I don't think so. They are often delivered to the network, but I have seen no evidence they are aired.

Suicide bombers making their final statements? I'm not sure there is as much of that as people think. Can you cite specifics?

Did they run Daniel Pearl's execution? No. Did they run any of the beheadings carried out by those sick fucks? No.
Did they run as much Abu Grav pictures and videos as they could get a hold of? Appearntly so.

Why. Because they excerisied editorial control and decided that Americans would get too upset if they saw their own countrymen getting butchered, but the shame of seeing their own countrymen degrade prisoners, well that's just news.

This red-faced, hyperventalating screamin' "talk radio land" (which in addition to talk radio includes the likes of CNN, Fox News, Nancy Grace, Larry King, The Today Show, Good Morning America) is becoming less relevant with each passing day. There's a more serious discussion taking place in America on blogs and maybe even boards like this one.

And still a legit news operation. Not sure the relevance of your point. Unless you're arguing that pro-Qatar bias is seeping into the coverage that is at issue.

Or, as some wrongly think, Al-Jazeera under terrorist groups.
