A post by Evil on the Random Images thread got me thinking. He posted a story about a project by photographer Francois Brunelle to take photos of people who are completely unrelated, some born on different continents, who look remarkably alike.

It got me wondering ... with the billions of variations in our genetic code, and nearly infinite combinations of proteins, genes and chromosomes, how is it that two people who don't share any genetic relation end up looking nearly identical?

Since facts, reason and logic are only nominally required for posts on our fair site, I thought this was an interesting question for the great denizens of SportsJournalists.com to ponder.

But are there billions of variations of the genetic code that controls how we look?

Well, the fotog is dressing, lighting and posing the pics to highlight similarities.

It's really not surprising at all. We really all look pretty similar, just like chimps.
