Namath never beat a team with a winning record after Super Bowl III. His overall stats are pretty pedestrian. And you said Super Bowl era.

Upping it to QBs since the 1980s is decidedly different.

No, it is a commentary about his durability in a game that takes a huge toll on the men who play it. If he had sat a few games in there, he'd still have been an iron horse in a game that beats the living hell out of guys who play his position. What Cal Ripkin did was extraordinary because with 162 games, baseball is a long grind. But this is something completely different. Large, extremely fast men were not taking shots at Cal Ripkin's knees and trying to rip off his head every time a ground ball came his way.

And it's probably a better comparison when it comes to evaluating Warner just because of the way offenses have changed.

In that regard, he's definitely a step below in terms of overall compilation, with some HOF-worthy seasons. That gap is a big blemish, no question.

A couple of those show stupid ass decisions so that's not a real good case.

How many HOF quarterbacks have been benched more than once?

Sonny Jurgensen was traded once (Eagles to Redskins) because Philly wanted Norm Snead instead of him and he was benched once at Washington and replaced by Billy Kilmer.
Bobby Layne was CUT by the Bears.
Terry Bradshaw was benched several times early in his career before the Steelers' first Super Bowl in the 1974 season.

How can you make a case that he is even one of the 15 best to play the position?

Passer ratings are mostly bullshit anyway.

Just glanced at this thread and haven't had a chance to go through the whole thing -- I'll do it later, when I have a minute -- but re Warner-Kelly.

Kelly 60.1 pct, 35,467 yards, 225.7 yards per game, 7.4 yards per att, 237 TD, 175 int, 84.4 rating, 4 Super Bowls, 0 wins

Warner 65.6 pct, 32,344 yards, 260.0 yards per game, 7.9 yards per att, 208 TD, 128 int, 93.7 rating, 3 Super Bowls, 1 win

With one more average season (for him), Warner is Jim Kelly with a ring.

    He's in.

Wasn't Unitas cut by the Steelers?

Apologies if I'm treading ground that's been covered, but Elway has to be on that list.
